<aside> 🪵 For this milestone, a material selection process was done for the turbine blade of the assigned scenario, this milestone is grouped into three stages. In this milestone, I learned how to use the material selection process, ANSYS-Granta Edu Pack, and the weighted decision matrix to determine how the best material is chosen for a given scenario.

For this stage, a primary and secondary objective was to be chosen, and for each objective an MPI of both strength and stiffness was paired to it, and an explanation for each was given.

For this stage, each team member was required to choose one of the MPI’s above and perform a material selection process using ANSYS-Granta Edu Pack material selector. I was assigned the MPI that focuses on minimizing production energy an objective concerned with strength.

From the material selection software, each material is ranked from highest to lowest, additionally, materials of similar compositions are grouped (e.g., steel). All the materials are ranked by slope in an effort to maximize the MPI and therefore chose the best material to be used in the give scenario.

After the consolidation of the individual material rankings, a selection of the 3 materials that appeared the most was done.

After the selection of the 3 best finalists, more research was done in an effort to ensure the best material will be chosen and by doing this a weighted decision matrix was implemented.
